Blessing of the Salt of Exorcism

I am here beginning to offer corrected English translations of the Sacramentaire du Rose + Croix, by Robert Ambelain ([1964]). I worked with a friend on this translation years ago. As I think over this wonderful book, it’s impossible not to relate it to powwow. I use these operations in my own powwowing. I hope that someone finds them useful, or interesting.

First, I will present some of the “Sacralisations.” The operations that follow will often call for an item to be sprinkled with the “Water of Exorcism.” The salt and taper must be made before the water can be made, because they are both used in the blessing of the water. I’ll begin with the blessing of the salt. The great Conjure doctor Professor Charles Porterfield has simple instructions for the use of any salt in a great YouTube video I can no longer find, but this was the charm he gave:

Salt hear me
Salt obey me
Salt protect me

And then sprinkle it where it needs to go or carry it with you. Blessed salt, or just normal table salt, is a useful and versatile resource to have at your disposal.

Now on to the sacralisation of salt, from the Sacramentaire.

Blessing of the Salt of Exorcism

Prepare a vessel of salt and stand before it. When you see ✠, make the sign of the cross over the salt.

I exorcise you, creature of salt, by the Living ✠ God, by the True ✠ God, by the Holy ✠ God, by the God who willed that you be cast into the water by the Prophet Eliseus to heal the barrenness of the water: that you may become exorcised salt for the salvation of the faithful, and bring to all who take you salvation of soul and health of body; and that from every place where you are scattered there may flee and vanish every illusion, perversity, hatred, or malice of diabolical cunning, and every Demonic Spirit, conjured in the name of Him who is to come to judge the living and the dead, and to make the world pass through Fire. Through Jesus ✠ Christ, our Master and Lord. Amen.

Almighty and Eternal God, we therefore humbly implore Your Infinite Clemency, that You would deign in Your mercy to bless ✠ and sanctify this creature of salt, which You created for the use of man. May all who use it or consume it obtain, from this time forward, salvation of soul and health of body; and may everything it touches or permeates be purified forever of all impurity, and of every invasion of the Spirit of Evil and of his ministers. Through Jesus ✠ Christ Your Son, our Master and Lord, and by Saint John His servant. Amen.
